Bezier: Second Edition Review

One of the most celebrated games of all time is now available for the very first time on your iOS device. Created by the team behind the popular PC game Civilization IV, Bezier: Second Edition is an adaptation of the popular board game of the same name for iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch.

I’ve been a fan of Bezier Curves since I first discovered them in the early days of using my Mac G3 computer. They aren’t strictly for drawing, but anyone who has used a computer can relate to the frustration of drawing a simple straight line that looks exactly the same on your monitor as it does in a photo or a video.

If you are an intermediate to advanced user of Bezier, you are probably aware of the fact that, if shipped with Adobe Photoshop CS5, Bezier doesn’t have full support for all the features that you might want to use in your projects.

If you spent your childhood playing video games in arcades, then Bezier: Second Edition is the game for you.

With its arcade-style twin-stick shooter action and Geometry Wars-style graphics and music, Bezier: Second Edition strikes the ideal mix between new and old.

Different from the amazing graphics and music effects, you may be wondering what makes this game apart from others in the category. Bezier: Second Edition also includes story-driven gameplay, which is unusual for a game like this.

While the tale isn’t the most exciting or engaging I’ve ever heard, it’s great to see an arcade game with some kind of narrative to give the gameplay more meaning.

Of course, if you’re not interested in the narrative, you can either ignore it or attempt the game’s endurance mode, in which the goal is to live as long as possible.

Endurance mode will get more difficult as you attempt to surpass your prior high scores, which may become very addicting.

Gameplay of Bezier Second Edition

Bezier Second Edition gets out to a sluggish start, with just a few opponents to contend with. However, it isn’t long until your screen is clogged with opponents and bullets are flying everywhere.

With so much going on, keeping track of all your opponents and goals may soon become challenging. It didn’t take long for me to get overwhelmed by all that was going on.

When I initially began playing, I honestly believed that I would only play one or two games before becoming bored. However, the leaderboard had me hooked, and I found myself continually trying to increase my top scores. It reminded me of my childhood, when I used to play Snake on my old Nokia 5210 phone.

Controls in Bezier: Second Edition

Bezier: Second Edition has twin-stick controls, which means you use the left stick to maneuver your spacecraft and the right stick to shoot in the same direction as you move the stick.

A, B, X, and Y fire alternate weapons that can only be utilized for a limited amount of time before overheating.

While the controls are basic, I found that this is one of the aspects of the game that I liked. Instead of trying to reinvent the wheel, they’ve created a simple, fast-paced game that anyone can learn quickly.

Summary

While Bezier: Second Edition isn’t a must-have title, it is a decent arcade game from an independent developer with some addictive features that will have you going back for more.

It’s a fast-paced game that will test your reflexes to the limit and may quickly overwhelm you, particularly if you’re playing against the time.

There are two game modes in the game, either of which may totally alter the game’s format:

Story Mode: This includes the game’s story-driven material, as well as a timer that makes the game more harder as it continues. It pushes players to make faster choices and keeps them focused on achieving defined goals and gaining more time.

Endurance Mode: Rather of being timed, the endurance mode in Bezier: Second Edition will continue until the player is slain. This mode is played in waves, with each wave increasing in difficulty, making it very tough to remain in the game.

Overall, I think Bezier: Second Edition is a good game that I had a lot more fun with than I anticipated.

However, I believe Bezier: Second Edition has a short shelf life until additional modes, content, or anything else is introduced to the game. You can only go so far in your pursuit of high scores before you get bored.

Bezier: Second Edition is now on sale for $1.99, down from $19.99. Personally, I would buy this game on discount, maybe even for $9.99, but at full price, I don’t believe there’s enough to justify the purchase.
