Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was given a smooth ride by veteran left tackle David Bakhtiari during Friday’s 2021 NFL training camp sessions, while injuries and dissatisfaction hit at other camps.
In Indianapolis, where quarterback Carson Wentz is sidelined indefinitely with a foot injury and Miami Dolphins CB Xavien Howard did not practice Friday due to an unknown ailment, there is concern.
In other news, Jacksonville Jaguars coach Urban Meyer continues to work on rebuilding the team’s culture, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady said he will remove the sleeve he has worn on his left knee and is looking forward to putting on his pads, and New York Jets fans got to see first-round pick Zach Wilson throw some passes.

Howard is out of practice due to an unknown injury.
Howard, who requested a trade from Miami on Instagram on Tuesday night due to his dissatisfaction with his contract, did not practice Friday due to an unknown ailment. He ran off the field during the team’s warm-up Thursday before returning 40 minutes later and watched the conclusion of practice from the sideline. He was an All-Pro pick last season after leading the NFL in interceptions with 10. Howard’s condition was not updated by the team.
Wentz will be sidelined indefinitely due to a foot issue.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Mike Wells, the Indianapolis Colts quarterback is sidelined indefinitely while undergoing further tests for a foot injury sustained at the conclusion of Thursday’s practice. At Friday’s practice, second-year quarterback Jacob Eason got the starter’s reps, with backup Sam Ehlinger filling in.
By sending the Philadelphia Eagles a third-round choice in this year’s draft and a conditional second-round pick in the 2022 draft, the Colts were able to reconnect Wentz with coach Frank Reich over the summer.
Brady removes the sleeve he’s been wearing since a knee injury in 2008.
Since sustaining a ruptured ACL in 2008, Tampa Bay’s quarterback has been wearing a distinctive sleeve on his left knee. He wore it at his first training camp session on Sunday, then rolled it down to his shin on Monday. It was over by Tuesday. He hasn’t worn it since and has no intention of doing so.

Payton Turner, a first-round selection, took a lot of repetitions with the starting defense, while Carl Granderson, a reserve, looked to have one or two possible sacks in non-contact drills. Mecole Hardman, who is vying for a starting spot for the first time in his career, is off to a strong start at training camp. On Friday, he grabbed a long touchdown throw from Patrick Mahomes when he got behind the coverage, and he only gave up another huge gain when cornerback Charvarius Ward made a nice play recovery. Hardman has had trouble gaining the coaches’ and Mahomes’ confidence by always being in the right position at the right time. In that respect, Mahomes complimented him.

Derek Carr and Hunter Renfrow, his safety blanket of a slot receiver, have an amazing connection. Carr tumbled to his right late in Friday’s practice during an 11-on-11 non-padded red zone scramble drill. Renfrow was blanketed and rushing to his right in the end zone until Carr locked eyes with him and turned his head to the left. Even in tight coverage, Ryan Fitzpatrick has faith in receiver Terry McLaurin. He had thrown to McLaurin on numerous times, who was well covered by corner William Jackson III. McLaurin, on the other hand, has a habit of coming down with the ball. Fitzpatrick said he now knows he can make such passes to McLaurin in a game as a result of it. Mike Purcell, a defensive tackle, departed Friday’s practice with an ankle injury. He’s an important part of the run defense, and he missed the last ten games of 2020 due to a broken foot.
